Prayer Needed: Bulgaria's Religious Denominations Act

Attention all prayer warriors! On Friday, December 21, the Bulgarian Parliament will hold a vote on the Religious Denominations Act, which is controversial legislation that could strongly impact the work of the national church and other workers there.

One of our missionaries, Kevin Beery, who previously served in Bulgaria for a number of years, sent in this explanation of the situation:

For the last number of weeks the Bulgarian Church has taken to the streets in fasting and prayer. A worldwide petition was also circulated.

“A new religious law has recently been proposed in Bulgaria which severely restricts freedom of religion and also any foreigners who would work alongside the Bulgarian Church. The Bulgarian Evangelical Churches, along with the Catholics and Orthodox, are against it. Even Muslims oppose it. I have spoken with Pentecostal Leaders who are concerned as to where this new law came from. It’s very harsh and restrictive and seemed to come out of nowhere. For the last number of weeks the Bulgarian Church has taken to the streets in fasting and prayer. A worldwide petition was also circulated. If this new religious law does pass, it’s already on the radar of the religious freedom arm of the European Union. The vote in Bulgarian Parliament is tomorrow (Friday, December 21). Thanks for joining us in prayer that it will be stopped in its tracks.”

Thank you for agreeing with us in prayer that God’s will be done in Bulgaria!
