Community Impact in Scotland

AGWM personnel in Scotland, David and Julie Goldschmidt, initiated a new church plant just a few months ago. They are happy to share the news of their first baptismal service held in March. As the church meets in a rented café, obviously without a baptismal pool, they held it outdoors in an unused ‘birthing pool’. Perhaps that issignificant for the spiritual new birth that was being celebrated at this baptism.

They are happy to share the news of their first baptismal service held in March.  As the church meets in a rented café, obviously without a baptismal pool, they held it outdoors in an unused ‘birthing pool’.  Perhaps that is significant for the spiritual new birth that was being celebrated at this baptism.

Katie, a fashion major at Edinburgh University decided it was time in her walk with God to make a public confession of her faith. She invited her parents, family, and friends to attend this special step in her life, although none of them ordinarily attend a church.  It was a beautiful time.  Baptism is a miracle!

Any church planter will attest that the beginning stages call for creativity.  Because the Goldschmidts had no musicians to play on their worship team, they advertised in their local ‘craigslist’ for free musical help.  Radek, a Polish musician, responded to their plea.  Five months ago he had never played a worship song, and new even less about church life and the Bible.  Now he plays weekly for the worship, comes early on Sunday to set up the café, and comes for dinner and discipleship on Thursdays. He is learning to pray out loud and is slowly falling in love with God.  He has become a special part of the church family. Radek’s life change is a miracle!

The Goldschmidts run a large toddlers group for their community.  They met a Dad the other day.  They relate, “We shared about ourselves, and the church we were pastoring, and he said, ‘Oh, yeah, my wife told me about you guys.’ Our presence at the Farmer’s Market, at the community center, at the toddlers group is starting to be felt in this city.  Recently a secular friend said he is looking out for a church property for us.  Our community is starting to root for us, starting to know who we are and what we are about.  In a city of 500,000, we are building a good reputation for Jesus.   Community impact is a miracle!
